Sunrise Coast Dance Academy

Classes

Every style, every level, from a two year old's first Tiny Toes class to adult beginners. Not sure where to start? Tell us your dancer's age on the trial form and we will suggest a class.

Pre-school dance · ages 2 to 4

Tiny Toes

Tiny Toes is where most of our dancers begin. Each 30 minute class follows a story with music, props and simple movement so children build confidence, listening skills and coordination without realising they are learning. Grown-ups stay in the room for the 2 to 3 group and wave from the doorway for the 3 to 4 group.

Taught by Miss Amy.

Classical ballet (RAD syllabus) · ages 4 to adult

Ballet

Our ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. Younger dancers start with Pre-Primary and Primary, where classes are playful and built around imagery and music. From Grade 1 the work becomes more structured, and dancers may enter RAD examinations each spring. Senior dancers work towards Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate vocational grades. Adult beginners are very welcome on Monday evenings, with no experience needed.

Taught by Miss Hannah and Miss Chloe. Examinations: RAD.

Tap (ISTD syllabus) · ages 5 to adult

Tap

Tap is often the class children ask for first, and it is easy to see why. From Primary upwards we follow the ISTD tap syllabus, building from simple shuffles and ball changes to complex rhythms and time steps. Dancers may enter ISTD examinations each summer. Our adult tap class on Tuesday evenings is a friendly mix of returners and complete beginners.

Taught by Miss Chloe. Examinations: ISTD.

Modern theatre dance (ISTD syllabus) · ages 5 to 18

Modern

Modern theatre dance blends technique with performance. Classes follow the ISTD Modern syllabus and include limbering, travelling sequences, turns, leaps and short amalgamations that build into show pieces. It pairs beautifully with ballet, and most of our modern dancers take both. Examinations are offered each summer from Primary upwards.

Taught by Miss Chloe and Miss Hannah. Examinations: ISTD.

Street and commercial · ages 5 to 18

Street

Our street classes are relaxed, loud and full of energy. Dancers learn foundations like bounce, rock and isolations, then build them into routines to current tracks. There are no exams; instead street dancers perform at our summer show and at local events such as the Lowestoft carnival. Minis, Juniors and Seniors groups keep the choreography age-appropriate.

Taught by Mr Jordan.

Acrobatic dance · ages 6 to 16

Acro

Acro combines dance with gymnastic skills: balance, limbering, tumbling and partner work. Our coach is Acrobatic Arts certified and classes progress in small, safe steps on proper mats. Dancers must be at least 6 and we ask that they also take at least one other dance class to build the strength and control acro needs.

Taught by Miss Amy. Examinations: Acrobatic Arts.
