About the class

Tap is often the class children ask for first, and it is easy to see why. From Primary upwards we follow the ISTD tap syllabus, building from simple shuffles and ball changes to complex rhythms and time steps. Dancers may enter ISTD examinations each summer. Our adult tap class on Tuesday evenings is a friendly mix of returners and complete beginners.

What to wear

Black leotard or Sunrise Coast t-shirt, black shorts or leggings, black tap shoes (low heel for Grade 3 and above). Adults: comfortable clothes and tap shoes; we have a small stock of loan shoes for your first few weeks.

For a trial, anything comfortable is fine.

Examinations

Tap follows the ISTD syllabus. Examination entry fees are set by the RAD, ISTD and Acrobatic Arts and passed on at cost plus a 5 pound administration charge. We tell you the exact figure before we enter your child, and entering exams is always optional.
