Classical ballet (RAD syllabus)
Ballet
The foundation of all dance. Posture, musicality and grace, taught to the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus from Pre-Primary through to Intermediate.
About the class
Our ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. Younger dancers start with Pre-Primary and Primary, where classes are playful and built around imagery and music. From Grade 1 the work becomes more structured, and dancers may enter RAD examinations each spring. Senior dancers work towards Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate vocational grades. Adult beginners are very welcome on Monday evenings, with no experience needed.
What to wear
Pre-Primary and Primary: pale pink leotard, pink ballet socks or tights, pink leather ballet shoes, hair in a bun or neatly tied back. Grade 1 and above: navy leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, character skirt and shoes from Grade 1. Boys: white t-shirt, navy shorts or leggings, white socks and shoes. Adults: anything fitted and comfortable, ballet shoes preferred.
For a trial, anything comfortable is fine.
Examinations
Ballet follows the RAD syllabus. Examination entry fees are set by the RAD, ISTD and Acrobatic Arts and passed on at cost plus a 5 pound administration charge. We tell you the exact figure before we enter your child, and entering exams is always optional.
